La Rondine may not be as popular as other Puccini operas, but it's still got all the passion and heartbreak. Magda de Civry is a well-kept courtesan who falls for a penniless (natch) young man named Ruggero. The two run off to the South of France and make plans to marry, but sadness ensues when the very love that draws them together requires that they stay apart. Performed at Venice's Teatro La Fenice, the opera is captured for the big screen in HD with Dolby Digital sound as part of Emerging Pictures' opera series.
