Film The Counterfeiters

Someone's got to say this aloud: It's getting hard to rouse the will to see more films about the Holocaust. Only Germany still excavates new angles worth exploring cinematically; fortunately, its latest import on the subject proves no exception. It's the true story of Salomon "Sally" Sorowitsch, a Russian Jewish immigrant who was a major player in the German crime underground before he was sent to the camps and selected to counterfeit the US dollar. With a quiet insistence and a terrific, swelling tension, The Counterfeiters raises the rarely posed question: Just how morally accountable were those in the camps?
