An Egyptian police band invited to perform in Israel arrives at the wrong town, much to the dismay of the group's leader, the officious and stoic Tawfiq. The mistake necessitates an overnight stay in a remote desert backwater, as guests of the brassy Dina and her cohorts, the reluctant Itzik and hapless Papi. Writer and director Eran Kolirin's debut film, The Band's Visit blends the tender, melancholy, and bittersweet with the subtle humor of day-to-day life, to create a comedy that says as much about humanity in general as it does about the potential of Arab-Israeli relations.
