Film Girl Happy (1965)

Whether you credit the "accidental" speeding-up of most of the songs on the soundtrack, or the fact that said songs were recorded by Elvis Presley, there's no denying the frenetic energy of this sun-drenched feature. What is deniable, however, is the plot, which concerns a Chicago mobster (Harold J. Stone) who assigns rocker Rusty Wells (Elvis) the task of watching over his incorrigible daughter (Shelley Fabares) during spring break in Fort Lauderdale. It's lighthearted fare, but the songs and action are swift and attention-grabbing — when was the last time you saw someone hollow out a tunnel to get into jail? Now that's something to dig.
