Nathan Sawaya's Art of the Brick, made of nearly 1 million individual Lego pieces, induces both giggles and awe. The deceivingly minimal forms rendered in bold primary colors are in fact highly complex structures that portray objects ranging from the abstract to the mundane. There are also life-sized human figures — the bisected man tearing open his chest, Legos spilling out, is oddly compelling. Sawaya's show is the first US museum exhibition made exclusively from the iconic children's toy. The lawyer-turned-sculptor even takes commissions — Pete Wentz and Stephen Colbert are recent clients.
