It's no secret that the light in Miami is a prized asset — it's why the fashion industry shoots here, and why architect Cesar Pelli designed the performing-arts center with all those off-kilter, shadow-casting angles. This makes our city the perfect place to contextualize novelist Jun'ichiro Tanizaki's eminent text, which examines the way shadow defines space and explores Japanese architecture's relationship with darkness and light. FIU architecture professor Marilys R. Nepomechie leads tonight's book-club discussion.
