- With hits like "Free Fallin'," "Don't Come Around Here No More," and "Mary Jane's Last Dance," Tom Petty couldn't be further removed from the glitzy hair bands that were also popular during the '80s and '90s — in both sound and spirit, Petty is classic rock. While not a full-on idol like Bruce Springsteen, Petty is still a beloved figure in the rock 'n roll canon, as evidenced by his band's triumphant halftime show at this year's Super Bowl. But that spectacle was merely a taste of what this outfit can do live; the group has been known to rock for nearly three hours in concert. – Jason Jeffers
