Widely considered one of the most innovative and forward-thinking musicians in Havana today, pianist Roberto Carcassés melds traditional Latin jazz with sly dashes of funk, Afrobeat, and hip-hop. He's collaborated with everyone from American jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis to Barcelona's famed flamenco-rap fusionists Ojos de Brujo, and he's also the leader of Interactivo, a coalition of some of Cuba's finest young musicians. In short, Carcassés is a man with an open mind and more than enough talent to successfully draw from his diverse musical interests. He showcases his versatility tonight as the first featured artist in FUNDarte's 2008-09 UNplugged concert series.
