On a train in fictional Bandrika, a fetching young woman (Margaret Lockwood) gets bopped in the noggin with a flowerpot, awakens to have a conversation with an old lady (Dame May Witty), passes out again, and wakes once more to find the lady, not only gone, but entirely forgotten by her fellow travelers. Of course, the girl has received some critical information from this mysterious figure, and she must enlist the help of a charming young man (Michael Redgrave) in order to prove to the others what she already knows to be true. Fast-paced, smartly scripted, and extremely well-played, this Hitchcock mystery — the last he made before heading to Hollywood — marks the midpoint of an incredible career. – John Hood
