With tickets going for $1,500 and shows selling out within hours, it's unlikely that many of us will have the privilege of attending a night at the opera at Milan's La Scala. Thank goodness for Cinema Paradiso, which gives us the chance to see the legendary house's production of Aida on film. Giuseppe Verdi's tragic opera takes place in ancient Egypt and centers on a man torn between his love for a woman and his duty to his country. The run was a huge hit, but became infamous when, on opening night, a booing crowd caused tenor Roberto Alagna to storm off the stage, leaving his understudy to finish the first act in jeans.
