Performing Arts: Comedy Mark Curry

Mark Curry is known to most as the wisecracking basketball coach on the '90s sitcom Hangin' with Mr. Cooper. That gig, as well as a stint as the host of Showtime at the Apollo, stemmed from Curry's popularity on the nationwide stand-up comedy circuit, a world he never really left behind. In 2006, things turned tragic when a freak fire at his home left him badly burned and contemplating suicide. Encouragement from comedy mentors and contemporaries such as Bill Cosby and Sinbad eventually pulled him out of his doldrums, and now Curry's back in action. He triumphantly takes the stage at the Improv for a four-night run.
