Music: Rock/Pop Peter Murphy

As the former lead singer of Bauhaus, perhaps the first-ever gothic-rock band, Peter Murphy has taught legions of gloomy, black-clad disciples about the aesthetic value of sadness. After the band's dissolution in 1983, Murphy embarked upon a solo career during which he forsook Bauhaus' haunting sounds for club-friendly electronic pop and driving alternative rock. Following a recent, temporary Bauhaus reunion and collaborations with NIN's Trent Reznor, Murphy is back in solo mode, casting his deep voice over dark guitar-based foundations adorned with electronic flourishes. The songs reference nearly every style he's called his own over the course of his long, nuanced career.
