Performing Arts: Theatre El Llanto

The 23rd annual International Hispanic Theatre Festival gets off to an auspicious start with the staging of El Llanto (roughly "the lament" in English). Helmed by acclaimed director Jaume Villanueva of Barcelona's Octubre Teatral, El Llanto draws inspiration from the rich, melancholy poetry of legendary Spanish writer/artist Federico García Lorca. It's packed with dance, drama, and the grand iconography of bullfighting and flamenco and the whole production is set to the work of pianist and composer Enrique Granados, another brilliant Spanish artist of a grand old era.
