Before there was Marlowe, Archer, or even Sam Spade, Dashiell Hammett created the Continental Op, a nameless, amoral figure who is singularly unimpressed by the teeming masses that surround him. Perhaps best known for clearing up the violent mystery in The Dain Curse, the Op appeared in numerous crime stories, many of which ran in The Black Mask, the magazine responsible for popularizing the detective genre. Tonight, the Wolf Book Club follows the Continental Op from case to case, and exhumes a legend that can never really die.
