Heineken may be the marquee sponsor of the annual TransAtlantic Festival, but the true parents of this world-music extravaganza are the fine folks of the Rhythm Foundation, the local nonprofit that's been bringing global troubadours to our city for the last 21 years. This year's fest features the likes of the Budos Band, who dish out wiry, funky Afro-soul spiked with Ethiopian jazz; Tinariwen, a cadre of guitar slinging Saharan nomads who play smoldering desert blues; and Aterciopelados, one of Columbia's finest rock exports. They aren't the only acts hitting the North Beach Bandshell for the festival, though — it's best to acquaint yourself with the whole lineup while it's still early.
