French New Wave master Alain Resnais is back with Wild Grass, a curious, dreamlike romantic comedy featuring André Dussollier and Sabine Azéma. With glowing cinematography that hones in on primary colors, bathing the whole film in a heightened visual reverie, the story works its way into a romantic encounter when a stranger named Georges finds the stolen purse of Marguerite, bringing them together — but not without coincidences and diversions along the way. An ethereal reflection on desire, the film is presented at the Raleigh ballroom by the Miami Beach Cinematheque, a stalwart local purveyor of great cinema that opens its new home inside the historic Miami Beach City Hall in November.

The Raleigh says…

Miami Beach Film Society says:

A wallet lost and found opens the door - slightly - to Georges and Marguerite’s romantic adventure. After examining the ID of its owner, it is not a simple matter for Georges to turn in to the police the red wallet he has found. Nor can Marguerite retrieve her wallet without being piqued with curiosity about the person who found it. As George and Marguerite navigate the social protocols of giving and acknowledging thanks, turbulence enters their everyday lives. One of the acknowledged masters of cinema has returned in glorious form with a vibrant, life-affirming film that certainly provides its share of joyous surprises. Alain Resnais has made some of the essential works in the history of the medium. As Wild Grass shows, Resnais's talent still flames bright. (In French with English subtitles.)
