“Sol Ruiz — Miami's own peripatetic soul rebel and tropical troubadour — is simply a badass. With global influences ranging from Cuban son and Balkan music to reggae and mariachi ensembles, she weaves deft lyricism into a bluesy, authentically bohemian sound. She's playing PAX this Friday night, as part of a fundraising effort to help create her second studio album, which draws inspiration from her recent travels in Europe and features the aural finessing of esteemed musician and producer Bobby MacIntyre. (If you love Ruiz's music, we encourage you to contribute to her Kickstarter campaign too.) Also on the bill — famed Cuban singer Luis Bofill, who hits the stage after Ruiz.”
