“Paul Goodman is possibly post-war America's most seminal counter-cultural thinker, writer, and exponent of the common good that you've never heard of. Best known for his revolutionary book, Growing Up Absurd: Problems of Youth in the Organized System, he was also a founding member of the New York Institute for Gestalt Therapy. A prolific short story writer and critic, he covered so many diverse topics that it'd be difficult for the casual observer to find a common thread. Known publicly as an activist, anarchist, bisexual, academic, pacifist, and a true New Yorker, Goodman manifested an overarching concern that stitched the entirety of his oeuvre together — a dogged, tireless belief in the possibility of a just and compassionate society in which the human qualities of its citizens are not abused or ignored. Jonathan Lee's inspiring documentary sheds light on the life and times of a man whose impact, as Noam Chomsky has said, "is all around us."”
