Since bursting onto the art scene in the '90s, German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans has resuscitated several major genres of photography with his meditative, uncanny color prints. Tillmans works across styles, juxtaposing portraits with landscapes, still-lifes, abstract prints, and architectural subjects. At Andrea Rosen, he exhibits new work from his paper drop series — large, minimal compositions depicting an elegant teardrop form created from folded photographic paper. Other mediums get representation from a video work, Farbwerk, which depicts a reservoir of swirling red ink, and his stream-of-consciousness photo archive truth study center — various clippings presented on wooden tables. Three large-scale, black-and-white photographs made from photocopies capture Tillmans' unique talent for transforming the mundane into the monumental.
