In the pre-YouTube days of the mid-'80s, three Mississippi teenagers set out to re-create Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981). After seven adolescence-spanning summers, the result was a painstakingly detailed tribute to the classic. Though the film imitates Dr. Jones' biblical pursuit with impressive authenticity, The Adaptation's real adventure lies in the story of its makers and its making.
