Raz Mesinai (aka Badawi) first gained recognition in avant-garde circles in the early '90s for his compositions on percussion, sampler, and piano during his stint as a member of the "illbient" community, a group of musicians based in Williamsburg and fronted by DJs Spooky and Olive. These days, Mesinai's out on his own, but still blowing speakers and minds with his singular brand of Middle Eastern-influenced dub. Tonight, he celebrates the release of his new record, Unit of Resistance, with a wall-shaking set on Love's supreme soundsystem.
