Andy Goldsworthy's more ephemeral sculptures only last for a few hours after their completion. In one scene of Rivers and Tides, the artist weaves small twigs into a web-like pattern for most of the morning, only to have it collapse again and again at the slightest breeze. Other works, such as his signature egg-shaped mounds of rock, withstand crashing waves for years at a time before breaking down. In either case, Goldsworthy's work begs to be filmed and photographed, being composed entirely of natural materials and sometimes constructed in remote locations. This documentary follows the artist from his quirky and frenetic home life, out into the solitary calm of his open-air studio.
