Note: There is an opening at the gallery Thur Nov 29 (6-8pm).
Korean artist Do Ho Suh inaugurates Lehmann Maupin's new Chrystie Street space — located in the shadow of the new New Museum — with a monumental sculptural installation called Reflection. Viewable from the gallery's interior balcony, Reflection is a full-scale recreation of a traditional Korean gateway in Do Ho's childhood home, fashioned from gossamer aqua-blue nylon-mesh. With its two mirrored parts, one suspended upside-down beneath the other and separated by a transparent floor, Reflection is a disorientingly enormous object of memory and nostalgia. More of Do Ho's Suh's work is on display at Lehmann Maupin's 26th Street branch, where a tornado of red and yellow miniature figures, Cause and Effect, electrifies the room.
