A scant 90 minutes of The Return, Ryuji Sawa's mesmerizing popular theatre revue, just isn't enough. The audience leaves wanting more of this Japanese hybrid creation, which incorporates martial arts and sword fighting, gorgeous, magically transforming costumes, kabuki fan dancing by 12-year-old prodigy Ozora Takami, and spectacular taiko drumming performed as an elaborate dance that rocks the rafters. Mimed to electronic musical accompaniment and Sawa's gravelly singing, short vignettes depict universal themes of love, honor, betrayal, and responsibility. The highlight: a hilarious kabuki riff on Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video.
