Symphony Space says…

Selected Shorts, the classic New York short-story reading series, has a sterling formula that never disappoints: great actors read great stories. Both of tonight's authors — genial Californian surrealist Aimee Bender and oddball Israeli writer Etgar Keret — take generous liberties with storytelling's conventions. Actors, including This American Life contributor David Rakoff, read two stories by each author. Both of Keret's stories ("Your Man" and "Shooting Tuvia") come from his uproarious, recently translated book The Nimrod Flipout; Bender's story "Drunken Mimi," from her first collection, The Girl in the Flammable Skirt, stars an imp and a mermaid in high school, and "Death Watch," from her latest collection, Willful Creatures, starts like a bad joke and just keeps on going.
