The Dirty Projectors' register-defying vocal scoops have sparked a trend in Bed-Stuy. Neighborhood group Phosphorescent narrow down this happy range with slide guitar and a regular tempo that's more amenable to first listens. Their country appeal evokes paddling feet in warm shore water and the sort of dull green glow implied in their name. They also wield the slow horn dirges that Elephant 6 fans crave and rollicking, arm-in-arm tavern sing-alongs to sate the lushes. Chorus-heavy West Coasters Bodies of Water open with tone-shifting — if not a little bipolar — fist-in-the-air celebrations of indie whimsy.
