While Mary Anne Hobbs' journalistic enthusiasm sometimes reaches hyperbolic heights unknown to listeners of American radio jocks, it's impossible to deny her immense influence on the growth of dubstep and grime outside of its Southeast London origins. Both her weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 and last year's Warrior Dubz compilation on Planet Mu — which placed the pitch-black murmurings and thrashed synth stabs of Digital Mystikz alongside Burial's reverb-drenched vocals and slippery beats — have done more toward gaining a wider audience for the genres than the combined boasting of every MC from Bow to Croydon. Tonight, she's sure to inspire new enthusiasts with the help of digi-dancehaller and animal-lover Stereotyp.
