Tzadik darling Susie Ibarra blends jazz, gamelan, and kulintang rhythms in her expressive drumming. A punk at heart, she's performed with the likes of Yo La Tengo and Thurston Moore, but she's just as revered in the jazz world, having developed an interest in the genre after a Sun Ra show. With her regular band — featuring violinist Jennifer Choi and keys man Craig Taborn — she performs avant-garde yet accessible compositions that are at once angular, complex, and arrestingly romantic. Tonight, the trio plays the Roulette experimental music series at Location One.
