Sean Kelly Gallery says…

Born in a tiny Danish village, Poul Kjærholm rose rapidly from skilled teenage cabinetmaker to icon of international design with his compression-molded plywood chairs. Simultaneous exhibitions at Sean Kelly Gallery and Tribeca's R Gallery bring together a large selection of the designer's refined, ultraminimalist creations, which are so sleek they're nearly invisible from certain angles. Four limited editions are on view at Sean Kelly, highlighted by the braided-leather semicircular chair PK 12, the maple-slatted PK Modular Shelving Unit, and examples from the PK Molded Aluminum Chair series in yellow, blue, black, and white. Though these creations may be beyond your wallet's capacity, Kjærholm's ascetic pieces exemplify an extraordinary attention to the perfection of joints, seams, and innovative hardware, embodying his pristine vision of a radically simple life.
