Art Lucian Freud: The Painter's Etchings

Known for mountainous, fleshy portraits, like the painting of Leigh Bowery's backside at the Met, Lucian Freud (grandson of Sigmund) seemingly paints with a chisel, weighing down his figures with the feeling of ordinary objects. Similarly, the German-born artist etches like a painter — with the copper plate set upright on an easel. This thorough retrospective follows Freud's needle from his earliest plates in the '40s through his renewed enthusiasm for the medium in the early '80s.
