Times Square Angel is as much an homage to Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and bad 1940s noir flicks as it is to It's a Wonderful Life. Charles Busch's "hard-boiled Christmas fantasy" — in which he stars as a nightclub diva named Irish O'Flanagan who learns that the holiday spirit doesn't necessarily involve stripping for money — has become a minor New York tradition, running for one night only for the past nine years. Though only marginally prettier than Hugo Weaving, Busch's character endears herself to the audience through a so-bad-it's-good sense of humor and a glowing, sentimental reverence for the season that shines through the sequins and smeared lipstick.
