Whitney Museum of American Art says…

In 2000, Beth Campbell first exhibited in New York with her installations of two identical, but otherwise nondescript, bedrooms. While there was nothing particularly off-putting about them, the meticulous similarity between two separate spaces left viewers antsy — and maybe a little tempted to rearrange something — as the occupant-absent rooms remained stubbornly frozen. However, the artist is fully present in some of her other works. Sprawling flowchart drawings with titles like My Potential Future... map out the many outcomes that could result from a single experience. For Following Room, a site-specific solo exhibition at the Whitney, Campbell duplicates a single reading room along a mirrored grid.
