Many have recalled Brian Wilson while listening to Jace Lasek's vocals on the Besnard Lakes' recent release, Are the Dark Horse, but Lasek's slow-burning elegies are more fit for a space alien than a Beach Boy. The Montreal nu-gazers' hermetic harmonies and reverbed atmospheres fit neatly alongside Peter Moren's dreamy piano echoes and Luke Temple's synth-folk labyrinths.
