With a script culled from hours of recorded phone conversations on subjects ranging from Hollywood to addiction to dinner theatre, Nature Theater of Oklahoma's four-hour epic No Dice is at turns absurd, hilarious, thoughtful, and unpredictable. The show, performed mainly by three actors dressed as a pirate, a cowboy, and a go-go girl, is a wholly fresh experiment. The show appeals to the voyeur and clown in all of us, taking mundane phone calls and recontextualizing them as transmissions from an American culture that has resigned itself to mediocrity.
