The Film Society of Lincoln Center says…

It’s a cliché to bemoan how Spanish cinema gets short shrift this side of Pedro Almodóvar in the United States, but, like they say, it's a cliché because it's true — and unjust, especially given the praise even the worst treacle of French film reaps here. This strong annual showcase of contemporary Spanish film goes a long way toward rectifying that oversight, and this year's selection overviews a developing filmic grammar — a bold, nuanced intimacy that feels unique to that region. In particular, don’t miss Yo, an interrogation of small-town dissonance; Teresa, about the titular 16th-century saint, starring Paz Vega (Spanglish, 2004); or a seven-film retrospective of recently deceased director Pilar Miró.
