Deb Olin Unferth's Minor Robberies, originally published in McSweeney's One Hundred and Forty Five Stories in a Small Box, is a collection of dark, surreal, and outrageously funny stories featuring a slew of quirky characters intertwining across time and space. More somberly, New York-based South African Anne Landsman reads from her lyrical ode to her dying father, The Rowing Lesson. Both authors are celebrated newcomers to the literary scene, Landsman having been nominated for the PEN/Hemingway Award for her first book, The Devil's Chimney, and Unferth having won a prestigious Pushcart Prize.
