Him Her Him Again the End of Him

Former SNL writer and current NYU sketch-comedy prof Patricia Marx is known for her tongue-in-cheek analyses of our excessively materialist era. Tonight at Barnes & Noble, Marx reads from her debut novel, Him Her Him Again the End of Him, which follows a young woman's ongoing, inscrutable obsession with a reprobate named Eugene. Loosely following Marx's own bio, the book is set in Cambridge, England, where the unnamed narrator is a graduate student, and then in New York, where she works as a television writer. Reminiscent of the extra-lite novella Shopgirl by fellow SNL alum Steve Martin, Marx's story brings surprising poignancy into the unremarkable, all-too-familiar life of its protagonist.
