What a relief when an event's title accurately describes its experience. Sxip Shirey is a real-life circus composer who regularly rounds up his friends for an hour-long variety extravaganza. Shirey's vigorous, multi-genre compositions frame an array of performances, vaudeville style — some are wild, some freakish, some mediocre, but the sum of their parts is a fuzzy, Technicolor good time. Performers include vocalist Danya Kurtz, contortionist Jonathan Nosan, comedians Greg Walloch and Kurt Braunohler, Appalachia-loving band VOCO, and Flight of the Conchords' adorable psychopath Kristen Schaal.
