This week's world-beat-loving Samba Soul party celebrates the Pimps of Joytime's new 12-inch vinyl release on Wonderwheel Recordings, with help from label founders Turntables on the Hudson. Head pimp Brian J and his joyous co-pimps keep the crowd lost in delirious dance, lacing New Orleans-influenced funk with cross-continental brass and Latin and Afrobeat polyrhythms. DJs Nickodemus and OBah (with Nappy G on percussion) have been keeping vinyl alive with nearly a decade's worth of packed parties, from the Coney Island boardwalk to the Frying Pan, consistently spinning globe-spanning grooves deep into the night.
