Performing Arts: Theatre VisionIntoArt presents Traveling Songs and VioLens

Multiplatform performance collective VisionIntoArt conjures nightmare hallucinations in the best sense: reveries of childhood smells and sounds, alternately biting and sweet, and of old picture books bent through the prism of modernity. There's music here, to be sure — the group's directors, Paola Prestini and Milica Paranosic, are Juilliard-trained composers, and all members seem handy with a violin or vocal when required. VisionIntoArt produces more tangible visions, as well, in the form of pantomime, choreography, films, and storytelling — or, in this production of new works Traveling Songs and VioLens, onstage acts of self-flagellation and consumption (of panties spun from sugar, naturally). It's the heady stuff of the avant-garde, but certainly engrossing, and, luckily, sexy as hell.
