Legendary harp man James Cotton breathes the blues. After getting his start at the tender age of nine under the wing of harmonica master Sonny Boy Williamson, Cotton grew up to be an iconic figure in American music, playing alongside Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Janis Joplin, and Led Zeppelin, among many others. The now 72-year-old Cotton coaxes an impossibly wide range of styles from his harmonica — mournful Delta blues, raucous electric blues, and full-blown rock — and his gravelly voice conveys a lifetime of heartbreak, hardship, passionate love, and ecstatic joy. Even after more than 60 years of fever-pitched stage shows, Cotton still promises a spirited, soulful, sweaty good time.
