Farrar, Straus & Giroux editors Lorin Stein and Gena Hamshaw kick off their monthly reading series at the Russian Samovar with two lights of our literary firmament. Sam Lipsyte (The Subject Steve, Home Land), who heads the undergraduate writing department at Columbia, but was once the frontman for noise-rock pioneers Dungbeetle, is a pitch-perfect reader: heartfelt, hilarious, and always on point. Richard Price (The Wanderers, Clockers), last seen writing for HBO's The Wire, will read from his forthcoming novel, Lush Life, which tackles the gentrification of New York's Lower East Side. Come early to get a good seat, and stay late enough to buy Stein, Hamshaw, and the readers a shot of the Samovar's own, home-infused vodkas. (The horseradish is our personal favorite!)
