Art: Photography Archive Fever: Uses of the Document in Contemporary Art

Exploring identity and memory through archived imagery, curator Okwui Enwezor has collected over 20 artists to explore the often formal institution with a creative eye. Through peculiar cataloging, fictional biography, and various found images of unknown origin, the exhibit takes a tour of historical and contemporary photography, including Felix Gonzalez-Torres' Untitled (Death By Gun), a large tablet composed of hundreds of head shots of gun-violence victims; Fazal Sheikh's Afghan images; and Zoe Leonard's Fae Richards Photo Archive, 1993-1996, which employs models to recreate the life of a fictional actress.
