For her performance piece North, Heather Christian dresses her "tiny orchestra," the Arbornauts, in all white, creating an otherworldly, tabula rasa-like effect. While an airplane-flight concept gives the show its loose dramatic arc, original music and cover songs are performed alongside brief moments of dance and multimedia. Christian's voice is like a crazed rubber band — its capacity to bend, stretch, and snap is consistently surprising. Her five-piece band is reassuringly confident, performing Christian's strange and special new-music compositions with the stage chops of a seasoned rock band.
