Dan Perjovschi recently took over one of MoMA's massive interior-courtyard walls. Working on a mechanical lift during open hours, the Romanian artist covered several building stories with his signature permanent-marker cartoons. Continuing his site-specific work at Lombard-Freid, Perjovschi transforms the main gallery into a debate room, turning the walls into chalkboards for his sarcastic doodles. Simple and pointed, Perjovschi's cartoons take on hot-button political issues — of which there are no shortages of at the moment. The back room features a retrospective of Perjovschi's crowded Anthroprogramming portraits. These masses of tiny individuals are what his work is all about: the experience of being a mere individual in an overflowing world.
