Karole Armitage is best known to mainstream audiences for choreographing Madonna's "Vogue" and Michael Jackson's "In the Closet," but within the dance world, she's known as the "punk ballerina" for pushing the boundaries of classical ballet and infusing her work with geometric movements and shapes. Her latest evening-length work, Connoisseurs of Chaos, completes her appropriately titled Dream Trilogy. A work for six dancers set to Morton Feldman's luscious Patterns in a Chromatic Field, Armitage's latest contrasts lyricism with powerful, chaotic dancing, as well as comments on contemporary celebrity culture. Judging from her past collaborations, she has a lot to say.
