Performing Arts: Theatre Hunting and Gathering

Hunting and Gathering's simple, sweet appeal lies in its hyper-real portrait of young NYC. Ruth is a thirtysomething who keeps her stuff in storage while bouncing from sublet to house-sit. She is attempting to crawl out from under her latest ex (who has found himself with a twentysomething), but remains close with his couch-surfing half-brother. Via the cutsey cultural signifiers that frame a young adult's city life (Buck Hunter, IKEA, Craigslist), the four all search for ways to move their lives forward. Though writer Brooke Berman's solutions and character portraits seem a bit too simple, they succeed in evincing that gentle hyper-neurosis that only a New Yorker could love.
