Art Lee Friedlander: A Ramble in Olmsted Parks

Lee Friedlander made his name wandering across the US in the '50s and '60s, taking pictures of motel television sets, shop window reflections, and odd characters. In 36 rarely seen works at the Met, Friedlander reveals a longstanding interest in the landscape designs of Frederick Law Olmstead. He gets to the core of why Olmstead's designs, including Central Park, Brooklyn's rival Prospect Park, and numerous other public spaces and university campuses, remain unmatched in America 150 years after their creation. As New York awaits a new park on Governors Island, Friedlander's timely exhibit should provide inspiration for planners and the public alike.
