Since Netflix doesn't stock classic Korean films to bolster your knowledge of one of the hottest genres in Asian cinema, the Korea Society hosts a second season of its Classic Movie Night. Each month, the cultural-exchange nonprofit screens South Korean gems from the '60s to the '90s, starting with Lee Kwang-mo's Spring in My Hometown (1998). Set during the Korean War, this tale of sacrifice, survival, and the loss of innocence raises timely questions about the human costs of political conflict. Despite the pointed narrative, however, Spring softens the edges of its commentary with loving shots of the rural South Korean backdrop.
