Note:
Check our sister publication, Artkrush, for more detailed coverage on the Outside Art Fair.
The Outsider Art Fair hosts dozens of international galleries who specialize in this nebulous genre, which encompasses art brut, folk art, visionary art, intuitive art, prison art, and naive art (among many other loose categories). The growing canon of artists includes the American original Henry Darger, the recently rediscovered Martín Ramírez, and early 20th-century Swiss psychiatric patient Adolf Wölfli. Every year, new artists come into the limelight. This year, look for George Widener's fantastically detailed cityscapes at Henry Boxer's booth. Toyko-based gallery Yukiko Koide Presents curates a mini-exhibition, The Art of Necessity, with lyrical text drawings by Harald Stoffers, Kunizo Matsumoto, and calligraphist Yuichi Saito.
